Reports for new energy vehicle production in China has been released for the month of January and Tesla is off to a strong start producing 2,625 vehicles despite the two week long factory shutdown due to the Lunar New Year followed by the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak.
Tesla’s January production reflects 6.1% marketshare of China’s new energy vehicle production total. Interestingly enough, China’s largest manufacturer of new energy vehicles suffered an 81.6% drop in new energy vehicle production due to sluggish sales after losing significant Chinese subsidies.
Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD
Chinese customers may have the option to soon buy one of the best Tesla Model 3 variants as a recent Tweet from Twitter user JayinShanghai suggests that Tesla will soon begin manufacturing the Model 3 Long Range RWD in China for the Chinese market. Currently, the Tesla Giga Shanghai only produces the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus variant and imports premium trims from the Fremont factory in California.

The Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD was recently listed on the China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology website complete with pictures of the vehicle and specifications.
The Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD discontinued in the US market last year, but remained one of the best value Tesla Model 3 variants. The Model 3 Long Range RWD offered 325 miles (523 km) of EPA range was priced at around $43,000 making it the best value in terms of range to dollar ratio.
