When Tesla CEO Elon Musk introduced the highly anticipated Tesla Cybertruck, he showed off its incredible towing capability with a controversial video.
In the video, a Tesla Cybertruck was hooked up to a Ford F-150 via a tow cable and the two vehicles played a round of tug of war. The result? The Tesla Cybertruck dragged the Ford F-150 up a hill with its wheels spinning.
While it’s clear the Tesla Cybertruck crushed the Ford F-150 quite easily, there are some questions as to whether or not this was a fair fight. For starters, the Tesla Cybertruck is an all wheel drive truck while the Ford F-150 used in the demonstration appeared to be rear wheel drive. The Tesla Cybertruck should also be significantly heavier due to its battery packs which gives it an advantage due to the increase in the amount of traction available to the tires.
Ford VP Sundeep Madra didn’t appear too happy about the demo and Tweeted at Elon Musk “… send us a cybertruck and we will do the apples to apples test for you” which prompted a reply from Elon Musk, “Bring it on”.
It’s unknown at this time whether another demonstration will be held, but if it does it will likely not end in Ford’s favor. Electric vehicles are known for their instant and flat torque curve, which provides a massive advantage in these types of towing scenarios.
